10 Classroom Expectations

1. Before you come to class, do a heart check. Be sure that you are coming with a good attitude in your heart so that you are prepared for a good classroom experience. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45

2. Make class your primary focus during class time, and work at it wholeheartedly. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. Colossians 3:23

3. If a student near you is distracting or misbehaving in class, gently encourage him or her to focus on the class. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Hebrews 10:24 – Brothers, if someone is caught in sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. Galatians 6:1

4. Treat your classmates and teacher the way that you want them to treat you. So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:12

5. If you are having difficulty with another student in the class, try to handle it Biblically. Address it privately, just between the two of you. If that doesnt work, ask another student to be a witness or arbitrate between you. If that doesnt work, ask the teacher to intervene. “If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. 16But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; Matthew 18:15-17a

6. Put others first, before yourself. Others’ opinions, others’ ideas, and others’ needs should come before your own. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Philippians 2:3

7. Do not treat other students or the teacher rudely. Love your neighbor Matthew 22:39 [Love] is not rude. 1Corinthians 13:5.

8. Be kind to the others in the class. If someone has treated you wrongly, freely forgive him or her. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

9. Dont give up on being good! Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

10. Good behavior is always a choice. Work hard to meet all these classroom expectations. You can do it. No temptation has seized you except what is common to man, and God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
